The month of May flew by quickly with the roller coaster of events at the Riley Park Community Garden. Here’s a run-down of what we did last month!
Guided work parties
Every Wednesday and Sunday (except long weekends), our Garden Coordinator, Alex Kaiser, guides our volunteers through gardening in community. This month, as we planted beans, shouldered mulch and harvested greens, he taught us about native plants and wild weeds.

Gardeners’ potluck
On Sunday, May 25, we had our first Gardeners’ Potluck of the year! This is an event where the RPCG gardeners gather to share a meal. LMNHS provides volunteers with produce and staple ingredients prior to the event so the gardeners can prepare vegetarian dishes to enjoy together.
Our next potluck is on Wednesday, June 25, 1 pm. Join us for the work party, stay for the potluck!
United Way visit
On Friday, May 23, we were thrilled to welcome United Way BC on a tour of the LMNHS Food Hub programs: Food Distribution, the Yard Garden Harvest Project, Riley Park Community Garden and the Learning Garden. We are proud to be a UWBC Regional Community Food Hub that offers locally grown produce, education around food literacy, and opportunities for community connection in our neighbourhood.
